Voting/Election Information

Absentee Voting:

Begins 35 days before the general election and ends the day before the election. (Ballots must be postmarked by this day).

Any qualified voter may request and vote an absentee ballot without stating a reason. You must apply in writing if you want an absentee ballot mailed to you. Requests are submitted to your own County Board of Elections.

Go directly to your own County Board of Elections to request, receive and vote your ballot at the Board office up to the day before the election.

When You Vote:

Bring a photo I.D. showing your name and address
Or Military I.D.
Or bring a copy of a current utility bill (cell phone bills work too) showing name and address

Access:

Your polling location should be accessible to you.
There should be at least one accessible voting machine at your polling location.
You may take anyone of your choosing into the voting booth to assist you.
If need assistance and do not have someone with you ask a poll worker.

A person attempting to vote may not be challenged on the basis of his/her mental capacity. A person may be challenged ONLY on qualifications such as age, residency and citizenship.

Those in hospitals, nursing homes or other "facilities" or group homes are entitled to register and to vote. Contact the client rights advocate, your social worker or case manager for assistance.
